Juniper Springs – A Subtropic Forest Swimming Hole
Juniper Springs – my New England eyes took in the subtropical palms, the warm water hole, the little salamanders all over the place, the flora and fauna of Florida. How differently nice 🙂 How differently warm 🙂
Juniper Springs Recreation Area
Juniper Springs Recreation Area, as if is officially called, is a park within the Ocala National Forest in Florida with a beautiful mill house, swimming hole, and campground. Beautiful if not crowded. If gets too small if even just a few families are there. But then again, my crowded might not be everyone’s crowded. We went super early in the morning and had it to ourselves for while. Bring goggles to see what’s under the water, it’s interesting! Don’t try to swim anywhere other than the swimming hole, there might be alligators. There was even an alligator that made it to the swimming hold a while back, but not since. Don’t worry, it’s totally safe. Again, bring goggles…just to double check…only kidding!
A swim is nice, but there are a lot of walking trails that stem out from this area that are very beautiful as well! While I usually prefer color photographs, I actually loved the black and white shots that I took here.
One of them, you might not be able to see unless very zoomed in, but there was an incredibly large and beautiful owl we saw walking along the trail, just next to the swimming hole. It was magical. I just stood there and stared at her/him until he flew away. With only a wide angle lens, the shot I took did the owl no justice. She/he was massive!
